II. Guide for Viewers

ViiKii supports subtitles in more than 100 languages.  Here at ViiKii, you can watch videos with subtitles produced by avid ViiKii community in your preferred language.  Enjoy!

III. Guide for Contributors (Subbers/Translators)

It's super-easy. Go to the "caption & subtitle" tab, click on the segment you want to input your subtitle in, and input your work.

Important: Using shortcut keys instead of mouse will greatly save your time:  Shortcut Key Summary

You can also delete the subtitles that you inputted, but cannot delete others'. However, you can rate others' subtitles, report if there are some problems, or clip (scrap) if you like them.  To do these, click on the [+number] as below.  [+3] in the picture below means there are 3 different versions of translations for this sentence.

IV. Guide for Contributors (Segmenters/Video Managers)

1) Add a New Video

As of now, you can only "add" links to videos to ViiKii.  You cannot "upload" video files to ViiKii because ViiKii doesn't host video files directly (although this policy may change in the future)  Adding a video only takes a few minutes. See the video tutorial for this).  Currently, ViiKii supports YouTube, Google Video, MySpace Video, and Yahoo Video.

#Super-important: Entitling: When adding your video, entitling is one of the most important things. To let others find your videos and to activate ViiKii's "What's Next" function, which automatically detects and displays next episode/part of the video, please strictly follow this entitling guidelines.

# Important: The fact that all our videos are currently linked from other video sites means that some videos might be deleted regardless of our (or your) intention.  This could be serious frustration especially for translators.  Please check Broken links and backup issues. 


2) Creating segments for subtitles

Once you added a video to ViiKii, your important next step will be creating "time segments" for the video.

A Important Rule:
- Basically, only the video manager (the person who added the video) can create segments for the video.
- However, a video manager can designate other users as "authorized segmenters" on the video information management page as below:





Finally, we strongly recommend you master our shortcut keys, which will enhance your productivity 10 times.  If you master shortcut keys, you won't need a single mouse click during your segmenting jobs. Shortcut Key Summary


3) Publishing Videos
